Affiliated to Ghent University, the VIB Centre for Inflammation Research is a division of the VIB Life Sciences Institute. The processes underlying infection and inflammation are the main focus of the centre.

A driven PhD candidate is needed to join our dendritic cell maturation team in the Sophie Janssens lab. Their team has discovered lipid nanoparticle (LNP)–based strategies that can control DC maturation in vivo in either direction. They are particularly interested in analysing the mechanisms that drive immunogenic vs homeostatic dendritic cell maturation (Bosteels et al., Sci Imm, 2023). This is significant because it may lead our immune system towards tolerance or immunity to LNP-encoded cargo. They seek a highly motivated PhD student to investigate these results further and investigate the possibility of extending LNP-based vaccination techniques to develop tolerance against autoimmune antigens or allergens, within the framework of a recently awarded ERC-Proof of Concept project.
