PhD Studentship in Lipid Platform (Biochemistry) – VTT Finland | January 2024

VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland has an open PhD studentship position for their lipids research stream for the development of biobased surfactants.

About the research

As a PhD student, you will have the chance to focus on research leading to a PhD degree under the guidance of seasoned experts and to enhance our lipid platform, a key technology utilized by various sectors, including food, pharmaceuticals, and fuel. Yeast physiology, metabolic engineering, genetic engineering, and synthetic biology are the key areas of study. You will get the chance to study fungal physiology and metabolism in this role, particularly as it relates to the synthesis of surfactants. Modern synthetic biology instruments, analytical techniques, and culture technologies will be employed. Incremental components of the effort include automation, data management, and computational biology.

Requirements

  1. Completed MSc in a relevant field including biochemistry, microbiology or genetics.
  2. Laboratory skills including experience in molecular biology techniques.
  3. Experienced in working with bacteria, yeast or filamentous fungi.
  4. Proficiency in English.
