First person who received the genetically modified pig kidney died after two months

The first recipient of a genetically modified pig kidney died a couple of months from the date of the procedure. Richard Slayman received the transplant from the Massachusetts General Hospital in March.

The transplant team from the Massachusetts General Hospital said in a statement that they were extremely saddened by the Slayman’s passing and offered their condolences to his family.

The surgeons also expressed that they expected the transplant to last for two years. They also added that they had no proof he passed away because of the transplant.

The xenotransplantation technology of biotechnology is used for transplantation.
