B.Tech. Biotechnology Vs B.Sc. Biotechnology - Comparison

Biotechnology is a leading field in the world.
Biotechnology is directly and indirectly involved in daily life. It supports
not only humans but the whole life on earth. It has various branches including
Animal Biotechnology, Plant Biotechnology, Medical Biotechnology, Food &
Diary Biotechnology, etc. But everyone doubts when Biotechnology can be studied
in both Bachelors Of Technology (B.Tech) and Bachelors Of Science (B.Sc). Here
we can make a comparison of both.

B.Tech. Biotechnology

B Tech Biotechnology is 4 years Under Graduate
Program (UG), a professional course. B Tech Biotechnology involves subjects
like Physics, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Engineering. All the
subjects may have technical aspects in this course. The students must get brief
technical skills in Biotechnology including Coding for Bioinformatics,
Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, etc. This course also provides
laboratory skills for Tissue Culture, Stem Cells, Histopathology, Biochemistry,
Immunology, Bioinformatics, Physics/Biophysics, Computational Biology,
Microbiology, etc.

Eligibility

The candidate must have finished their 10+2 in
the Science stream with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics from a
recognized board. Must have to qualify entrance examination required by various
institutes.

Entrance Examinations

JEE Main, JEE Advanced, BITSAT, VITEEE, MET,
KEAM, etc.
Top Colleges/Universities
IIT – Guwahati, NIT – Calicut, Warangal, Vellore
Institute of Technology, BITS Pilani (BE), Manipal Institute of Technology,
etc.

Job Profile

  1. Clinical Researcher
  2. Microbiologist
  3. Drug Developer
  4. Quality Controller/Analyst
  5. Lab Technician

B.Sc. Biotechnology

BSc Biotechnology is a 3 year Under Graduate (UG)
degree program. It is offered by various Universities in India. This course is
more scientifically oriented than B Tech Biotechnology. The major difference is
BSc Biotechnology gives more importance to scientific aspects than technical
aspects which are offered by B Tech Biotechnology. This provides a base for
future scientific research. This includes subjects like Biochemistry,
Microbiology, Bioethics, Bioinformatics and IT, Biophysics, Cell Biology, Genetics,
Immunology, Genetic Engineering, Molecular Biology, Animal Biotechnology, Plant
Biotechnology, Food Biotechnology, Environmental Biotechnology, etc. This
course also provides laboratory skills in Microbiology, Genetic Engineering,
Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, etc.

Eligibility

The candidate must have finished their 10+2 in
the science stream with Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Some Universities
provide admission on the basis of 10+2 marks on a ranking merit system. Some
universities provide admission on the basis of an entrance exam.

Entrance Examinations

CUET (Central Universities)

Top Colleges/Universities

Pondicherry University, University of Kerala,
Mahatma Gandhi University, etc.
