Approximately 20 distinctive genetic variations related to distinct dire wolf features were discovered. These characteristics include greater stature, a more robust body, broader heads, stronger jaws, and thicker, usually white, fur. They edited gray wolf cells' DNA using CRISPR-Cas9 technology, a precise gene-editing method. This entailed incorporating the 20 known dire wolf genetic variations into the gray wolf genome. Consider CRISPR to be molecular scissors capable of cutting DNA at particular spots, allowing genetic information to be inserted or deleted. The reconstructed egg cells were stimulated in the lab to divide and become embryos. The embryos were then placed into surrogate domestic dogs. While the puppies have physical characteristics that resemble dire wolves, their behavior is still being monitored.
