AbbVie (NYSE: ABBV). has formally started building a substantial $70 million extension of its AbbVie Bioresearch Center (ABC) in Worcester. This significant investment is intended to strengthen the company’s ability to manufacture biologics and to establish its presence in U.S. research and development.
AbbVie’s previously stated long-term capital strategy, which calls for investing over $10 billion across its U.S. operations, includes the initiative as a major component. Meeting the increasing demand for complicated biologic medicines worldwide and bringing the manufacture of important therapies in-house are the main objectives of this expansion.

Modern laboratory, warehouse, and office spaces will be housed in a new three-story facility that will be constructed as part of the development. Importantly, it will also include new suites specifically designed for the production of biologics. With an emphasis on AbbVie’s primary therapeutic areas of immunology and oncology, this improvement is intended to promote the development of the company’s present and next-generation treatments. The quick migration of some oncology product manufacture from European facilities to the United States will be a major strategic advantage of the investment.
